The City of Costa Mesa is updating its General Plan. State law requires that each city adopt a General Plan "for the physical development of a city and any land outside its boundaries which bears relation to its planning." A General Plan is normally updated every 10 years. Click here for information on the process used in updating Costa Mesa's General Plan. Click here are some frequently asked questions about the General Plan update.

"The Great Outreach"

The General Plan update may be best accomplished by receiving and incorporating input from a wide segment of the community. Staff was directed by City Council to hold monthly community workshops discussing the process and details of the draft plan as a process known as "The Great Outreach." (See staff presentation on the outreach process here.) To date, the city has held 10 workshops and public meetings, and five "roadshows" to various interested groups.

Below you can find various documents to the workshops, public meetings and roadshows. Please note that staff receives comments and varying opinions on a number of subjects and issues related to the General Plan and staff only reports the issues raised at the meetings.

Staff is meeting with a board cross section of stakeholders in the community including residents, land owners, business owners, community groups, builders and developers, and others. All of this information is being compiled and will be provided to the decision makers as we move through the General Plan Update process.

You may contact the Planning Division at (714) 754-5245 if you have any questions.
