In November 2020, Don Harper become the first person elected to represent Costa Mesa City Council District 1. This district includes Mesa Verde, Upper and Lower Birds, State Streets, Wimbledon Village and South Coast Collection
Don values family, friends, community and personal freedom. He came to Newport Beach in 1993 and then moved to Costa Mesa in 1998 where he and his wife raised their two daughters. He coached youth sports for 16 seasons including NJB Basketball and AYSO Soccer. He also served the community as Commissioner for Costa Mesa Parks and Recreation and as President of St Joachim School Advisory Board
In his business career he co-founded two businesses including IPC (USA), a distributor and trader of energy products. He also co-founded a division of SC Fuels and worked as Chief Financial Officer and Director of Strategic Planning. His other experience includes: Senior Vice President at Corner Capital; TRC as financial advisor to the CEO; Sunrise Bancorp as Vice President/Controller; and KPMG as a Certified Public Accountant.
Don owns and operates a company that supplies renewable clean fuels throughout California to companies like Amazon, Costco, Fed- Ex, PG&E and UPS. As a COVID “essential service” company, they have safely and successfully continued operations. Don supports our local businesses to continue to operate safely during this pandemic.
His priorities for Costa Mesa include fiscal transparency and discipline, public safety, enhancing our local parks and representing the values of the homeowners who have invested in Costa Mesa.
He is committed to representing Costa Mesa residents to make this city a great place to live along with defending our personal freedoms.
Don's most important qualification is his love for family, friends and community...and, of course, the family dog Malcolm.
