APPLICATION PROCESS

Candidates who meet the written examination requirements will be invited to complete an online employment application through NEOGOV’s Insight Enterprise software. Applications cannot be submitted until the City officially opens the application acceptance period and you have received an invitation to apply. However, you can get a head start by creating an account and begin to input your personal information. To do this, go to www.governmentjobs.com and click on "Sign In".  You will be able to create a new account if you don't already have one.  After your account has been established, you can begin to enter in your personal information such as work history, education, etc.  Once the application period has opened, you can return to the job page and click on the "Apply" link and then log in.  The information you previously entered will appear and you can edit the information if needed.  At this time, you will be asked several supplemental questions.

Online applications are stored on a secure site. Only authorized employees and hiring authorities have access to the information submitted. 

SELECTION PROCESS

Interested applicants should transfer a FireTeam entry-level, firefighter examination test score dated between April 2, 2021 - April 2, 2022 to the City of Costa Mesa or submit an application with National Testing Network and take the Fire Team test by April 2, 2022 at 5 p.m.

Applicants who successfully pass the National Testing Network/FireTeam Testing will be invited to submit a City application along with a supplemental application on-line between April 8 - 11, 2022 by 5:00 p.m.

Applicants are requested to provide thorough and specific information to ensure the correct evaluation of their qualifications. Applicants are required to submit proof of the required certificates with their on-line City application.

Application information, testing dates and instructions are available for viewing on the City’s website at www.costamesaca.gov under “Employment Opportunities”.  Please make sure to read the Application and Test Information sheet before submitting an application. All applicants will be notified of their status by e-mail only (regardless of the preference selected on the application).

Based upon an evaluation of the application materials, only the most qualified candidates may be referred to continue in the selection process. Candidates must pass the following components to be placed on a formal eligibility list: Written Examination (Referral/Non-Referral), Paramedic Assessment for Paramedic candidates (Referral/Non-Referral) and Interview Evaluation (weighted at 100% of final test score).

Prior to appointment, candidates must pass all the components of the pre-employment process which may include, but is not limited to: comprehensive background investigation (including criminal history check), polygraph examination and post offer psychological and medical examinations.

CERTIFICATION SUBMISSIONS

Once you’re invited to complete the online application, you are required to submit the required certifications with the Certification Submission Cover Sheet.  Please click here for the cover sheet, or it can be downloaded from the official job flyer. Make sure to read the instructions and double check to make sure you have uploaded all required certifications into the online application.  It is recommended that each certification be uploaded as a separate PDF document.
